Shot this at Laguna Beach during my visit to California. Lit with a single AB1600 with a Brolly box. Shot with a 55-250mm IS lens.

Not to hijack. How did you power the 1600 on a beach? I like how it is lit well. I am going to build as soon as I get home a marine battery portable power station. Interstate Battery(deep Cycle)- 40.00 for a refurbished battery. over 100.00 new, the difference between a marine battery and a car battery is the marine battery is built for constant charging and discharging. If I can run a refrigerator in a houseboat on a battery, I should be able to power a monolight with 1 battery. DC inverter to AC. 50.00 marine battery box 10.00 So for 100.00 I am thinking I can power a light, be able to recharge it, easily replace the battery when needed. I also do not want to pay 300.00 when I can save 200.00. So you can see the calculations http://www.lifelinebatteries.com/marinesizingac.php

Thanks David, Dan and Willie. She also has big dreams of being in Playboy magazine someday and has been to see Hef a couple of times. I powered the AB1600 with a Vagabond II inverter but bought the battery locally. Same design as the one from Alien Bees but managed to get one with a little more power and for less money. Total cost was $259 for me to combine them this way.

cute girl. if she wants to be in Playboy she may want to work on her smile in photographs. everyone thinks PB is only about boobs, but a great smile really send them over the top. <-----Miss December 2002 with a smile that lights up the room.

Megan's already had a test shoot with the Playboy staff so hopefully they managed to get her to smile once in a while. Time will tell I guess. I'll have to check to see if there any of her smiling in the series we did.

Hey Jim, Looks good. I say cut the skin softener down 15% but that is just my taste. I think hair movement (and off the chest) would be a nice touch but hard to fake without an assistant. I agree with Glenn... would be good to capture a little more life in her expression. Was this close to Victoria Cove? Trying to sort it out through the blur! :)

Was this close to Victoria Cove? Trying to sort it out through the blur! :) With me being a first time visitor to that area I couldn't tell you if it was Victoria Cove or not. I did however see a sign nearby on one of the streets that had Victoria Beach on it. Only a few select areas got any use of skin softener on it. About 20% of her body and it was used at a very low level 3 on portraiture. Most of what was done was simply using the patch tool to remove unwanted sand and a few minor scratches on her skin. As we all know, not all modeling photos have models with smiles on their faces. Sometimes we go for other moods or expressions as you very well know based on your own images, but Megan did sometimes freeze up when it came to showing some variety.

I agree about the hair. Her perpendicularity to the camera, especially belly, hips, and legs, kind of make her look a little bit short/dumpy. If she's been to Oz to see the wizard (Hef) a few times and hasn't made the cut for the mag, well.... they can't all be in PB, regardless of how beautiful and bountiful they might be. Just sayin.

Only example of a models hair movement in the wind that I could fine was one of my own. All other recent beach and/or pool photos posted and in other peoples ports don't have any samples of this. Curious as to the thought that this would be needed on one such photo but not others. Is there a logic to this?

Is there a logic to this? I should qualify my nit on the hair: Getting it off the left shoulder, IMO, would improve the image, regardless of how it came off her chest, either with wind or simply by pulling it off. Either that or having her hair come over both shoulders and to the front. Symmetry is often a good thing! :-)
